We are excited to announce three new participants for London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2019!
The Warriors of Anikituhwa
LNYDP is delighted to welcome The Warriors of Anikituhwa to LNYDP for the first time in the group’s history. The Warriors of Anikituhwa perform Cherokee social dances, including the Bear Dance, Beaver Hunting Dance and Friendship Dance. They talk about the significance of the dances, their clothing and Cherokee history and culture. They can provide living history demonstrations and programs in flute, storytelling, Cherokee language, bead-work, quill-work and more.
The Warriors bring to life the Cherokee War Dance and Eagle Tail Dance as described by Lt. Henry Timberlake in 1762. They are designated as official cultural ambassadors by the Tribal Council of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and are sponsored by the Museum of the Cherokee Indian.
Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band
The Band operates under Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury – a Hindu temple in London, which sits under the umbrella of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, a worldwide centre for social, cultural and spiritual welfare. The Band’s main purpose is supporting the charitable endeavors of the Mandir, its parent organisation and its leader, Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, by playing at events all over the World. The Band is comprised entirely of volunteers; professionals – scientists, engineers and students. We are one of five sister Band around the World, playing a repertoire of traditional bagpipe, as well as classic and contemporary Indian, melodies.
