Parade Makers Help Fly Flag on New Year’s Day

The Olympic Spirit will be alive and well at the turn of the year – as an army of volunteers gather to help London showcase itself to the World.

London’s New Year’s Day Parade, one of the World’s great street spectaculars, is harnessing the passion, energy and enthusiasm of the Games Makers – the volunteer movement that helped power the 2012 Olympics.

The parade, which raises huge sums for charities across the Capital and is estimated to generate several hundred million pounds in revenues for a wide spectrum of London businesses, is the perfect ‘shop window’ for tourists considering potential destinations for their 2017 holidays.

LNYDP is screened live on Television in the UK and around the World – and is expected to attract around 500,000 spectators on to the streets of Westminster.

Parade Makers will carry out a number of essential duties such as escorting VIP’s to their seats, answering queries from the public and helping the 8,000 plus performers form-up before the start of the event.

Those volunteering will be rewarded with:

  • A Parade Maker uniform
  • A free goody bag
  • A post event ‘thank you’ reception hosted by the parade
  • A Parade Maker certificate signed by senior officials and The Lord Mayor of Westminster
  • An Oyster Card (to cover transport fares)
  • Luncheon Vouchers
  • Named credit in the Parade’s official souvenir brochure
  • Oodles of Kudos

Volunteers will benefit from all the above – and more importantly – get a huge sense of satisfaction by helping serve the city that they love

Bob Bone, Executive Director of London’s New Year’s Day Parade said:” Recent days in Rio have reminded us of the extraordinary spirit engendered at London 2012.

“London to my mind is the greatest city of all and we welcome the chance to showcase it to World.

“What a wonderful opportunity for Londoners to volunteer for a fun day out and help our city shine.”
